When buying a new website, there are a number of things to consider very carefully. One of those things is price, but it should never be the most important thing.
Service industries are very different from traditional industries. Why? Well, here’s the lowdown.
Let’s say you are looking to buy some electric cables. You get a price and then try and drive it down to get a bargain. At the end of it, no matter what price you paid, you still got the same cables.
However, if you’re buying a website and you apply the same technique to get your bargain, you’ll most probably get a diminished quality of service. The provider may cut a few corners because you’re not paying full price, or outsource it to India or somewhere similar, which is often a recipe for disaster.
This is also where the old saying comes into play, “buy cheap, buy twice.” It could be done so badly in the first instance, that you’ll be better off to bin it after a couple of Years moaning about it and go and pay ‘proper money’ for one that is written properly.
Another important thing to consider is how you get along with whoever you choose to write your website. Can you bounce ideas off eachother, or are they pushing ideas at you that you don’t really like?
It is always much less stressful to go with somebody you get on with and feel you can trust, worth the extra pounds, after all, marketing is an investment.
Sometimes, we get caught up with the £££ signs and forget the speculate to accumulate bit.
